Cool Color Combo: Aqua and Coral or Mint and Peach

Another Pinterest-inspired color combo.  First came the mint jeans (for which I bought a pair and returned), then came the mint and peach outfits.  Now I am loving the colors for a light and airy, cottage-meets-flea-market little girls room.

My pins started with this amazing dresser redo using milk paint (which I still have not tried).  I could not love this dresser color any more

I think I have posted this room before, this peachy pink room uses more of a light blue shade, but the concept could easily be done in white, peach and mint.

On a side note, I love those mirrors above the crib, and they look very similar to this Kirklands steal, which could be easily painted to match any color scheme

Cool Color Combo: Pink and Yellow Baby Girl Nursery

When I decided to do H's room in pink and yellow, there were not a whole lot of choices on the market as far as mass-produced items.  I made a lot of it myself, and I found a few things on etsy to use.  And I had a hard time finding fabrics that incorporated both pink and yellow in the same pattern.  So lots of things were pink OR yellow, or a patch work of patterns.

I still love the color combination - girly but not too predictable.  Here are some of my favorite rooms in pink and yellow:

Cool Color Combo: Orange and Aqua

Pinterest is a great inspiration starter for my blog posts.  Since most of the friends I follow are around my age, they are in super baby mode, so I see lots of cool baby pins.  I have even seen some of my stuff pinned by my friends via someone else.  Which is always exciting!

This orange and aqua room really inspired me, I have posted on this color before but it is still such a fun unusual combo that could work for a boy, girl, or baby surprise!

More inspiration from pinterest.  If you follow me, sorry if you have already seen some of this!  I have a board I pin blog ideas to, and that is where this gray and peach bed photo came from.  Such an unusual color combo, one I haven't seen before.  Which is probably why when I went searching for photos to share with you guys, I didn't come up with much.

I picture these colors with a shabby chic spin, think Jenny Lind crib, white washed wood and textured white blankets.

I think my play kitchen obsession started me on a mint green kick.  I found this inspiration board on Pinterest, and started looking for light pink and mint green rooms to share with you guys.  My search didn't come up with much.  Its such a pretty and unique color combo, maybe it is the new things and that is why I couldn't find many rooms to share.

I love the graphic paint treatment on this wall.  I know how long it too me to paint my accent wall, and I can only imagine how much time this detailed design took!  Love the aqua/mint accents in the space.

Cool Color Combo: Gray, Pink and Aqua

One of my besties is pregnant, and just found out she is having a little girl.  She is coming to visit in a few weeks and I am going to help her register for everything.  All in one day.  3 stores, 2 girls, 1 scanner gun.  Should be fun!

She and her hubby have modern taste, and plan on doing gray walls with accents of pink and aqua.  Here is the room that inspired them from my post the other day:

Cool Nursery Color: Orange

Happy Halloween everyone!  Today Hadley is having her first playdate with her friend Sam.  At 6 months he is a much older man, hope she dates closer to her own age when the time comes!  I also plan on taking a picture of her in a ridiculously cute orange tutu outfit someone gave her at a shower.  And we picked up some Halloween candy, but I might just put it outside in a bowl with a note, not sure I want all the kids ringing the doorbell all night??

In honor of Halloween, I thought I would put together some nursery ideas using the color orange.  Enjoy!

So many orange nurseries mix blue, but I love how this one mixes pink and aqua.  Orange can be an overpowering color, so I like that they did just one wall.

Many orange nurseries I saw were ultra modern, including this one with the orange crib and dresser.  These are from ducduc and quite pricey, but a similar look could be achieved by painting the drawer fronts of an old white dresser yourself.

Orange doesn't have to be modern, this one has a more vintage, almost gothic feel with the alphabet frames.  I like how the letter J is the largest, I am assuming it is for the baby's name?

Alternatives to store bought drapery panels

My cousin emailed the other day looking for some ideas for curtain panels for her nursery.  She didn't want solid, any sometimes just the right patterned ones are so hard to find.  I compiled a list of DIY alternatives to help her achieve just the look she was going for, and thought you guys might be interested in them as well.

Shower curtain turned panel - there are lots of cool shower curtains that are cheaper than drapes. Get a cool patterned one, and add a solid piece at the bottom in one of your coordinate colors to make it long enough. Target, Walmart, West Elm, Urban Outfitters and Z Gallerie have some cool ones.  LayBabyLay just did a feature on this idea, so check out her combos for some inspiration:

Land of Nod has some good choices that are basic, but with a little flair. They have some cute ruffled ones, and some that are mostly solid, but with a little twist or accent.

Shop adult stores - you don't have to just look at baby or children's store.  With the trend of using more mature and modern fabrics in the nursery, there are plenty of good options that are designed for grown up spaces.

Tun bed sheets into panels - I was getting desperate in my guest room, and considered buying sheets with a cool pattern and turning them into drapes.  Sheets are often much cheaper than fabric, and plenty wide and long enough to re-work into drapes.  Not so handy with the sewing machine?  Check out these DIY no-sew curtains from YoungHouseLove.

Jazz up a store bought solid - add some trim yourself like grosgrain ribbon around the edges, a couple rows of ruffles at the bottom, or that cute pompom ball on a string stuff.

Pink & Navy For Baby D

Baby Cox is going to have a future sorority sister and Aggie friend in baby girl D.  Her Mom wants to do a navy, pink and white nursery but is a little stuck on design ideas.  Here are a few pics to help her get started:

Since navy and pink are hard color combos to find together, she may have to mix and match things in solid navy, navy and white, pink or pink and white.  Anything can be accented with trim or gross grain ribbon, so don't look past a solid pink lamp shade that can easily be jazzed up!

Its hard to get started sometimes, but don't get overwhelmed!  Try places like Marshall's Homegoods, Target and Babies R Us for some fun accent pieces once you get the basics down.  And don't forget about shopping at regular non-baby stores like BBB and JCPenney for window treatments and pillows!
