My Photography Skills Need Improvement

I have to admit - I am embarrassed to show you the photograph I took of my latest pictures. Let me just give you a little background here - I have a Canon Elph camera that I just love. I know all the features and settings like the back of my hand. Problem is, its now about 6 years old. The Husband got a great new camera last year from my parents that he hardly uses and I always mean to use it but I just don't know how. I am determined to learn though because the quality of my shots is just horrible! I am going to try taking more pictures outside, maybe hung on the back fence (thanks Katrina!) but for now you will just have to believe me when I say THEY ARE MUCH MORE CUTE IN PERSON!

For this set, the parents wanted something classic with a vintage twist that would go with their navy, baby blue and red theme. They were inspired by my red and blue bird pictures and really liked that color combo.

They chose this bedding - but with light blue trim - from PB

She sent me a link to this vintage blocks print from KooBooBearKids.com as something she really liked:

And I found this wagon for sale at DesignDazzle.com that I wanted to incorporate somehow as well:

After a couple of sketches, we came up with the idea of 3 different items with a coordinating "inspiration" word for each. This one is a little different than I usually do so it took me so here it goes:

You can't see it because of my horrible photography skills but there is a faint vintage effect around the edges and corners of each. I actually used a mixture of paint and tea to get an aged look. I used the tea soak one time on a Texas flag I hand stitched and framed and remembered I really liked the look it gave. Another new thing for me on this set was the use of paint pens. Suggested by fellow artist Ashley, they worked great for little details that can be really hard to get perfect with a paint brush. I used them for the music notes in the background of the guitar picture, and to add definition to the wagon and blocks. I think I am addicted! I had to put them down and stop adding more "little touches."

I can't wait to get a better picture of these to share with you guys!

The paint pens are going to be a great addition to your "arsenal"! I love the detail you were able to do with them.
