Create a Ceiling Canopy
This beautiful blue and gold nursery looks straight out of a fantastic French villa. I love the elegant details, rich fabrics and stylish chandelier. I also love the ceiling canopy they created. If you are going to face your crib with the short end against the wall it is a great way to add drama and height to the room. Available to purchase from bedding brands like Picci and Cotton Tale Designs, ceiling canopies can run anywhere from $99 to $300 - a little too pricey for my taste.
So, I searched to web for tutorials on how to create your own - but came up with surprisingly little. This step by step tutorial had some good ideas, but without pictures it was kinda hard to follow.
I suggest using a lightweight curtain with a rod pocket. Use a needlepoint hoop and thread the hoop through the rod pocket. Then suspend from the ceiling using a clear fishing line. Or, you can purchase a basic mosquito net - available for under $30 - and dress it up with ribbon or trim. If you are really daring you can even trying using RIT dye to color it to match your room.
