I Love Spray Paint!

Inspired by Thrifty Decor Chick's Spray Paint Party blog I am sharing my love of spray paint with you guys. Painting with spray paint can by tricky. It doesn't always look high-quality and it is easy to leave drip marks and miss spots. Not to mention if it is a big project it really hurts your finger to press the button for along time! But if you are painting the right thing and choose the right color, the results can be amazing!

Below is the antique iron bed that makes its home in our beach-inspired guest room. Once a shade of navy blue, my parents bought this bed at an antique mall and I used it from the time I was little until I left the house and took it with me. When the hubby and I moved into our house, I wanted to use it as a guest bed. I looked into having it professionally sand blasted and refinished, but it was expensive and I didn't like the color choices available to me.

When I told my Dad I was going to spray paint it, he was skeptical. As a master of all things DIY, he is not a big fan of spray paint. But, I have to say, he was surprised at the results. I chose Rustoleum paint in a hammered metal finish, in the color brown. It comes out bronze with a texture, so it doesn't look as flat and cheap. It actually looks like brown iron.

Here is a close up, it is hard to see but the finish looks really nice:

So, for around $12 I completely transformed the bed into something that looks more Pottery Barn than Antique Road Show. Plus, with my left over paint, I went ahead and painted an old black curtain rod I had in the closet to match the bed frame.

If you have never tried it before and want some tips to make your project turn out great, check out this article from Askthebuilder.com.

For craft projects, metal, and other small things, spray paint is great. But if you are going to be painting furniture, I recommend using an enamel paint instead. I know it is more work, but the results will turn out better.

Hope this inspires you to transform something you already have into something you like much more!

I love that spray paint! I'm going to use the same one to do our outdoor furniture. Great job!
